Thomas A. Azuure

Mr. Thomas Abeliyine Azuure was born on January 22, 1964 at a village called Guabuliga near Walewale in the West Mamprusi District of the North East Region. His hometown is Zorkor- Kadare in the Bongo District of the Upper East Region. He is married with children.
Mr. Azuure started his basic education at the St. Michael’s Primary School in Guabuliga-Walewale from 1970 to 1976; He then continued to the Pope John’s Middle School in Tinguri from 1976 to 1980 and obtained MSLC in 1980. He proceeded to Notre Dame Minor Seminary/Secondary School in Navrongo in 1978 to 1983 where he obtained GCE ‘O’ Level in 1983, Sunyani Secondary School in 1983 to 1988 and obtained GCE ‘A’ Level in 1985, University of Ghana in 1987 to 1990 and obtained BA (Second Class Upper Division) in Geography and Resource Development with a minor in Sociology in 1990 then finally to the University of Ghana in 1995 to 1997 where he obtained Master in Public Administration in 1997.
Mr. Thomas A. Azuure started working with the University for Development Studies in Tamale since November 1997 and has moved through various areas of the administration; starting at the Vice-Chancellor’s Office, he has rotated through the Academic Affairs Section, the School of Medicine and Health Sciences, the Graduate School and currently heading the Human Resource Section of the University.
He had previously served his National Service by teaching at the Nalerigu Secondary School in the North East Region from October 1985 to August 1986. He also did pupil teaching at the Suguru Catholic Junior Secondary School in Walewale from November 1986 to September 1987. He also undertook his post-graduation National Service at the Sandema Secondary/Technical School between November 1990 and September 1995.
Mr. Azuure started to serve the University for Development Studies Staff Cooperative Credit Union (UDS-SCCU) as a Loans Committee Member between 2000 and 2002. He was then elected to the Board in 2003 and became the Chairman of the Board and served for six (6) years. He was within that period elected as the Northern Chapter Chair and thus a Member of the National Board in 2004. In a renewed term of the Board of Directors, he was also made the 1st Vice-Chairperson. After a pause of service in credit union management, he was again elected as Board Chair of the UDS-SCCU in 2012 and again became Northern Chapter Chair in 2016, and subsequently Member of the National Board of Directors. He was elected the National Board Chair in 2018 where he served as a unifier and successfully handed over to a new Board in December 2020. He currently serves as Ex-officio to the Board.
He has been part of the team that has taken the UDS-CCU to greater heights with annual increase in assets size, making it the largest Credit Union in the Northern Chapter. He ended his service with the Union by constructing a visible ultramodern office complex for the Credit Union.
Mr. Thomas Azuure is a Catholic who worships at the Sacred Heart Parish, in Tamale and has been a member of the Laity Council from 2010 to 2015, Chairman of the Finance Committee from 2015 to 2021 and a Member of the Pastoral Council from 2021 to date.
Mr. Azuure attended the Africa Development Educators Training at Mombasa, Kenya in February 2019. He also attended the West Africa Block Meeting in Banjul, The Gambia in April 2019, the World Council of Credit Unions (WOCCU) Conference in The Bahamas in July 2019 and the 20th SACCA Congress in Mombasa, Kenya in October 2019. He also attended several other training sessions for Board of Directors and participated in the previously organized CUA Annual Planning Sessions that took place at the Credit Unions Training Centre (CUTraC) in Kasoa when he was a National Board Member and the National Board Chairman.
